An Update on Elle

It's been awhile since I've been blogging. A quick look around and I realize that there is so much to share about Elle.

While she has not been adopted, she is no longer living in boarding. It wasn't long after my blog page about Elle, did a foster family appear. And I was thrilled when they agreed to take her from the boarding facility to their home. The mom had other dogs of her own, as well as experience being a foster mom. And so the beginning of Elle's recovery began. The foster mom did well getting Elle acclimated to a household environment. It was there that she began her potty training and would be socialized with other dogs. Unfortunately, she would still be crated often and eventually her needs outgrew what the foster mom was able to provide. It was April of 2015 when I was forced to make a decision that would forever change Elle's life. And so, on April 4th, after being shuffled around for over a year from boarding to home to boarding again, Elle came home to stay with me and the dog ambassadors of the House of Zen. I just couldn't put her back in boarding. And as it goes, the boarding facility has recent closed it doors. I pray the other animals abandoned there have found homes and a better life.

It was rough going at first. Integrating Elle into home life with other dogs was a bit of a challenge. But with the help of our rescue's behaviorist, we would soon realize that Elle was NOT an aggressive dog, to other dogs, as was told to us by those running the boarding facility. And with a little work at the Texas K9 Rehab ranch, Elle was ready to be integrated with my pack at home.

It's been almost a year. Elle is still with us. During this time she has learned to socialize with other dogs...AND cats. Really though, the reality is she always had the ability to socialize well with other dogs. She was just never given the opportunity. Until now.

Now Elle is part of the pack. She can be seen on any given day, playfully romping through the grass of our backyard with the other dogs, and instigating play with her favorites Buster or Wylie. She has become 95% potty trained, having accidents on the rare occasion. And she is learning how to be around cats. While I still wouldn't recommend her to a house with cats, she certainly could be adopted by someone with a cat, as long as they continued the work she is receiving here. Most times she just wants to play with them, but doesn't know how to. Cats are great teachers though and have helped her to know when she's getting to rough. lol

Elle is still up for adoption. We have gotten some interest here and there but the right home and family hasn't found her yet. We did get a visit this weekend from an interested couple. The visit went well and we hope to hear some good news. But if that news doesn't come, Elle will always have a home at the House of Zen.

She's come a long way and now lives the life she deserves...with some structure and a whole lotta love...which she will receive forever, or until her forever family finds her.
